Looking for a Midwest destination? Look no further – Chicago -home to the Cubs, the White Sox, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, multiple amazing museums and incredible food – is the place to head with your students. Chicago is an all-season destination, as long as you like a nice bracing winter wind off the lake!! Seriously, outside of winter, it is a great place for students to visit.
Millenium Park, housing a state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheater, the impressive sculpture affectionately known as “the bean”, the Art Institute of Chicago, two amazing fountains and acres of green space – is great place to start your trip and stretch those legs upon arrival. From there you have easy access to the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium, all of which have beautifully designed exhibits and offer something to peak every student’s interest.
Another option is to head out to Navy Pier and catch an architecture tour on the river or walk to the end of the Pier and gaze back at the impressive skyline. A variety of food options await you there, but you can easily hop on up to Michigan Avenue and find every type of food and retail experience your heart could ever desire.
Performing groups can draw on the expertise of local musicians from any of the impressive universities in town, through a clinic especially designed to meet their needs. For an evening of entertainment – the choices are vast and dynamic – sure to please every audience member with the world class level or work being presented. Indoor and outdoor performance venues offer opportunities for your students to add to the rich musical tradition that permeates Chicago.
Science students will want to head down to Hyde Park and explore the Museum of Science and Industry, and if it is physics (or fun) that interests you a trip to the northern suburbs will bring you to Six Flags Great America, where you can study G-Forces all day and into the night.
Groups interested in history and/or economics can easily find resources of specific interest as well. Chicago is a city that works – and over the years while the industries may have changed, the drive to keep the city moving forward has never wavered.
Come out to the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan and let Chicago show you how it’s done!
