New Orleans…just the name conjures up great jazz, great food, great energy and a great student destination! Of course, for our jazz bands this is a must-do location – the history of the genre, the incredible musicians you can hear and learn from and the performance venues – it’s a slam dunk! But don’t think this is only a music town!
Student groups of all types can find things to expand their view of the world and understanding of this unique culture. Walking tours abound and can be tailored to your interests, Ghost tours at night can bring a whole different feeling to the streets you have wandered during the day. Food tours and tastings can enhance everyone’s appreciation for the Cajun influences and of course take in a show or two and hear music like you have never heard it before.
If you want to get out of the city, consider an airboat tour of the swamps and bayous! Or if that might be a little too up close and personal with nature, how about a relaxing dinner cruise on the Mississippi watching the New Orleans skyline drift by as you listen to some jazz and enjoy some down-home cooking? New Orleans is reputed to be one of those cities that just gets in your soul, so take your students for their first trip and who knows – maybe they will keep on heading back for more!
